Mona's Monthly Embroidery Techniques | Sacramento

Let our expert educators teach you a new and exciting embroidery technique every month with Mona's Monthly Embroidery Techniques class!

Each month, we will have a new embroidery class aimed at teaching you a different embroidery technique. Take them all, or pick and choose which techniques interest you.

While each project in the series stands independently of the others, taking most of the classes in the series will augment the students' knowledge base to enable them to use their embroidery machines confidently. 

The series will cover stabilizer alternatives, needle selection, design selections, techniques, and machine setting adjustments encountered in various machine embroidery projects on multiple textiles.

February – Text Challenge 2 – Monogrammed Hand Towel
In this session, we will cover tips and tricks for successful stitch outs when working 
with textured fabrics and large text. We will apply a monogram to a towel. A kit for 
this project will include a hand towel, embroidery threads, stabilizers and a design 
file. Each student will bring their machine, embroidery module, power cord for 
machine, a 5” X 7” or larger embroidery hoop, a Schmetz machine needle -
Embroidery size 90/14 and a bobbin wound with appropriate embroidery bobbin 
thread.


March – Embroidery on Rope Tray
In this session, we will cover tips and tricks for successful stitch outs when working 
with rope, straw or similar mediums. Additionally, we will discuss appropriate 
designs for these projects. A kit for this project will include a rope tray, embroidery 
threads, stabilizers and a design file. Each student will bring their machine, 
embroidery module, power cord for machine, a 5” X 7” or larger embroidery hoop, a 
Schmetz machine needle - Embroidery size 90/14 and a bobbin wound with 
appropriate embroidery bobbin thread.


April – Greeting Cards Embroidery
In this session, we will cover tips and tricks for successful stitch outs when stitching 
on paper products. Additionally, we will discuss appropriate designs for 
embroidering on paper. A kit for this project will include a greeting card, fabric 
scraps for appliqué, embroidery threads, stabilizers and a design file. Each student 
will bring their machine, embroidery module, power cord for machine, a 5” X 7” or 
larger embroidery hoop, a Schmetz machine needle - Embroidery size 75/11 and a 
bobbin wound with appropriate embroidery bobbin thread.

The class fee includes a supply kit which consists of the textile, stabilizer, embroidery thread, needle and embroidery design for that project. An exception to this is the Yarn Embroidery on a Sweatshirt, where the student will bring a sweatshirt; all other supplies will be included in the kit.

 

Materials for students to bring to each class:

The students will bring their machine, embroidery module, power cord, embroidery hoop, bobbin thread, paper scissors, embroidery thread snips, applique (duckbill) scissors, and embroidery tape.
